After completing my Bachelor's degree in Cultural History and Anthropology at Vilnius University, I decided to take some time before continuing my studies. I wanted to find a programme that truly matched my interests and future goals.
Three years after graduating, I started actively searching for Master's programmes in Anthropology taught in English. I wanted to study in a country where this field had strong academic traditions and development opportunities.
That is when I discovered the Anthropology and Development Studies Master's programme at Radboud University through Kastu. The programme immediately caught my attention because of its specialisation and unique structure. Students can choose between two tracks: Development Studies and Anthropology of Mobility. I chose Anthropology of Mobility because it matched my interests the most.
The application process was smooth, and the university was very supportive from the beginning. They answered students' questions, provided clear information, and continued to support us even after studies started.
Before the academic year began, Radboud University organised an orientation week for new students. It was a great opportunity to discover the university, explore Nijmegen, and meet students from all over the world.
Nijmegen is a small but very welcoming student city. It is easy to get around by bicycle, and because there are many young people living there, there is always something interesting happening. Communicating with local people is also easy because most Dutch people speak excellent English.
Another advantage of studying at Radboud University is the opportunity to work alongside your studies. While many student jobs require Dutch language skills, there are also opportunities for international students. Before moving to the Netherlands, I found a job opportunity at the university's International Marketing and Recruitment Department. After arriving, I already had a job interview planned and started working in September.
My advice is simple: be active and look for opportunities. Finding work as an international student is possible if you take initiative.
Looking back, I am very happy with my decision. Studying at Radboud University is very different from my previous studies in Lithuania. The workload is intensive, and new students should not be surprised if they receive assignments from the very first weeks. However, the studies are also highly engaging and motivating.
My programme has a small group of students, which creates a comfortable environment for discussions and communication with lecturers. Students are encouraged to share their opinions, think critically, and actively participate during classes.
The university also encourages students to gain practical experience through internships, including opportunities in countries that best match their academic interests.
For motivated and curious students who want to challenge themselves, explore new perspectives, and build an international future, Radboud University can be an excellent choice.
